A rather slow growing broadleaf evergreen shrub. The dense foliage emerges in the spring an attractive reddish color turning to glossy dark green. Its upright, rounded shape reaches a height of 10 to 12 feet with a slightly narrower spread of 8 to 10 feet. Spreading branching habit. In March and April small, showy white, urn-shaped flowers appear in 3 to 6 inch long, pendulous clusters. Best planted in partial shade, but can also tolerate full sun. Does well in moist, acid, well drained soil which has been supplemented with peat moss or organic matter. Very deer resistant. Low maintenance. Excellent specimen and works well in shrub border, in mass or blended with other broadleaf evergreens.
