The Althea, also known as Rose of Sharon, is a deciduous shrub growing to a height of 8 to 12 feet with a spread of 4 to 10 feet. It is a decorative shrub that will add a dash of color to your home landscape. This plant blooms in late summer with flowers appearing in late July to early August. The vibrant, tropical-looking blooms, in shades of pink, red and white, remain throughout summer. Butterflies find their blooms very attractive. Prefers rich well drained soil. This plant may be used as a hedge, in a flower bed or as a stand-alone plant specimen.
