A rather slender, columnar shaped, densely branched evergreen growing to a height of 6 to 8 feet but only 1 ½ to 2 feet wide. The leaves are lustrous, dark green, slightly convex to 1 3/8 inches long and 4/5 inch wide. Female plants produce small greenish flowers in spring that bees and butterflies love. Inconspicuous, tiny, black berries develop in September or October which the birds are sure to gobble up. Sun or shade adaptable. Prefers light, moist, well drained, acidic soil. Drought tolerant. No pruning needed to maintain its remarkable shape. Makes a pleasant formal appearance in a container especially when white impatiens are planted underneath. Will add a decorative flair to your patio and vertical definition to a perennial bed. Great used as a hedge, privacy screen, as a border or as a specimen.
