A North American native fir growing to a height of 50 to 75 feet. Spread 25 to 30 feet. Needles are soft, bluish-green in color with a silver flash on the underside. Plant in sandy, loamy or heavy clay soil. Prefers well drained acidic, moist soil. Proven to be more heat tolerant than other species of Balsam. Grows in sun or partial shade. Great for cooler climates. Commonly used for timber and pulp wood. Valued as a Christmas tree due to its excellent fragrance and good needle retention. Also, suitable bough material.
