Atlas Cedar grows in a pyramidal shape to a height of 40 to 60 feet. Spread 30 to 40 feet. Eye-catching silvery blue to bluish-green needles make an outstanding appearance in the landscape. It produces an aromatic oil that is a natural insect deterrent. Barrel-shaped 2 to 3 inch long male cones sit upright on the lower branches and larger purple female cones develop on the upper branches. Prefers a well drained, moist, loamy soil but will tolerate sandy, clay soils. Likes acidic, alkaline soils. Can tolerate moderate drought. Plant in sun or partial shade. The wood is commonly used for chests and furniture drawers. This distinctive evergreen makes a beautiful specimen and requires plenty of space to grow.
